Advice for owners of 0870 numbers

If you currently operate an 0870 number and earn revenue from your calls, you need to read this:

* 0870 numbers are changing.

* You will no longer receive revenues for them.

* Are you ready?

Ofcom, the telecoms regulator, has announced that prices to call 0870 numbers will be reduced soon -- in fact, the original deadline has already passed, but was extended to give the industry more time to adjust. When the price changes do come into effect, you will lose your revenue share on 0870, and you may even start to incur charges on your calls instead.

This is good news for callers, but bad news for any business that relies on the revenues earned on 0870 calls: If you haven't already made plans to deal with these changes, now is the time to start. One of the best options available is to switch your 0870 to a 0844 number.

* 0844 has lower call prices than current 0870 calls.

* But you will still be able to earn revenue from them.

Notice: Some providers are giving advice to switch from 0870 to 0871. We do not recommend this, because 0871 numbers are also being investigated as part of the same review that is changing the prices of 0870. This means that 0871 may soon be subject to more stringent regulations, which would make it unsuitable for use as a general-purpose phone number.
